Alice Elizabeth Shaffstall

Alice Elizabeth (Wood) Shaffstall, 97, entered the presence of her savior from the home her daughter in La Junta under the care of Arkansas Valley Hospice, on Thursday night July 5, 2012. 
She was born on September 30, 1914 to Olin O. & Camilla (Bangs) Wood in North Platte, Nebraska.  Her father was a circuit riding preacher in the sand hills of western Nebraska during that time. She graduated from high school in Haigler, Nebraska, in 1933 and attended Denver Bible Institute in Denver, Colorado, where she met and subsequently married Clyde Shaffstall in 1936; he preceded her in death.
Alice followed her preacher husband to various pastorates and ministries over the fifty years of ministry. These included Victor, CO, Stafford, KS, Fruita, CO, Montana, California, Cedaredge, Fowler, Denver, Boulder, and Elsinore, California and various interims in Colorado. They moved to Rocky Ford in 1975 while representing Artic Missions and Alice helped her daughter Esther with running the Bible Book Store in Rocky Ford and La Junta from 1975 to 1989. She also served as the bookkeeper for Kienitz Sewing and Vacuum Center in La Junta. She moved to La Junta to live with her daughter in 2002.
Alice is survived by her three Louise (Kenneth) Lobdell of Alberta, Canada; Esther (Helmut) Kienitz of La Junta, Colorado and Sharon (Dan) McCandless of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Mary (Delmar) Stevens of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Donna Wood of Lincoln, California; 18 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 10 great, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Ruth Lewis, Paul, James, and John Wood.

 

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at the La Junta Baptist Tabernacle with John Brandt officiating. Inurnment will be at the Cedaredge Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colorado at a later date.
