Anna Jewell Maik

Anna Jewell Maik, 85, died Monday, April 1, 2019 at Spring Ridge Park Assisted Living in Wheat Ridge, CO. Anna’s independent spirit and gentle nature will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Anna was born January 9, 1934 in Noble, OK to William Wallace and Rosalie Bennett. She was valedictorian of her high school class and was awarded a scholarship to attend the University of Oklahoma where she went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English.

Anna married Edward P. Maik on June 7, 1963 and shortly after, she settled into the La Junta community and school system, where she taught English for several decades. In addition to teaching, Anna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, attending church, supporting the arts, caring for animals, traveling, reading, gardening, dancing, and bowling.

Anna is survived by her son, Michael (Kelly) Maik; daughters, Miriam Maik and Laurel Maik; grandchildren, Michael Maik, Sean Maik, Taylor Maik, Hayden and Hannah Gebhardt; and great-grandchild, Nolan Maik.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta with Reverend Dr. M.J. Romano of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to the La Junta Public School System direct or through the funeral home.
