Antonio "Tony" Aragon

November 8, 1921 — July 16, 2016

Antonio 'Tony' Aragon, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at his La Junta home, after enjoying 94 years of blissful life. Tony was born in Dawson, New Mexico on November 8, 1921 and at a young age moved to Colorado where La Junta became his hometown. Tony served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and always proud to tell his story of service.
He met his first wife Ophelia 'Jeanne' Melgosa and they raised their 7 children. Tony worked as a clerk for Santa Fe/Amtrak where he met many friends and enjoyed being the union worker. Tony retired from the railroad after over 41 year and was ready to enjoy his many passions in life. After Jeanne passed, Tony married Sylvia Garcia and moved to San Antonio where he lived from 1988 until 2015 when Sylvia passed. He was passionate about golfing, bowling, and wood work and always had a great story to tell.
In heaven he will be reunited with many friends and loved ones including his parents, Epifanio and Faustina Aragon; his siblings, Facunda, Louie, Casey, Adelina, Dan, Phil and Frank; his wives, Ophelia 'Jeanne' Aragon and Sylvia Aragon; his son, Tony 'Randy' Aragon and his grandson, Michael James Aragon, Jr. He is survived by many loved ones including his children, Pamela (Tom) Beachem, Rebecca (Mike) Coffey, Michael (Yolanda) Aragon, Lawrence (Vickie) Aragon, Yvonne Aragon, Mario (Carolyn) Aragon and daughter-in-law, Linda Aragon as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Matthew Wertin officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta with Military Honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion Post #8.
