Barbra Jane Jones

Barbra Jones passed suddenly from this life into glory on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in La Junta, CO. She was born April 28, 1934 to Leona and Albert “Bugs” Clark in Detroit, Michigan.
In 1951, Barbra began dating John Paul, brother of her best friend Charlene, and they were married April 17, 1953 at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.
She was a very active member of 1st Southern Baptist Church of La Junta. For many years she played piano, led the women’s Sunday School class, and helped with Vacation Bible School. Barbra was also a long-time employee of the Tribune-Democrat as a typesetter and sometime photographer, eventually becoming the Society Page editor. Through her contacts with the newspaper it seemed as though she knew everyone, and everyone knew her. She was also an avid Denver Broncos fan.
Barbra loved working with her hands and with children. Many children in La Junta and points beyond have been gifted a crocheted, knitted, or quilted blanket, each one personalized and crafted with a granny’s love. With the scraps from those projects, she would make special blankets for the pregnancy center to give to newborn babies so they would have something special from someone who wanted them to know they were thought about and loved.
Barbra was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge and read all of the non-fiction books in more than one library. Barbra had a wide range of interests, but she dearly loved reading her Bible and murder mysteries, particularly Agatha Christie books.
Barbra is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, John P. Jones; her children Sherri Woods, Tricia Irwin, and John D. Jones; grandchildren Rebecca, Katherine, David, Jonathan, Stephen, Joanna, and Nathaniel; great-grandchildren Alex, Kiersten, Shannon, Hazel, Johannes, and MacKenzie; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed very much by all of her family and friends.
Whenever she gave one of her family members a hug, it would be accompanied with, “I sure do love you!”
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the First Southern Baptist Church, located at 2006 Smithland Ave., La Junta, CO, 81050.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church, direct or through the funeral home.
