Ben B. Lacy, 90, of Pueblo passed away peacefully on Monday, July 12th at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. He was born on September 25, 1919 to Raymond & Tempa (Taylor) Lacy in Wiley, Colorado. He married Fern Hendrix on May 14, 1939 in Holly, Colorado.
Ben was a farmer, rancher, and a country music singer well known throughout Southeastern Colorado and particularly, the Arkansas Valley. He was especially known for his fiddle playing. He and Fern played country music dances since the 1950s at towns throughout Eastern Colorado and continually provided music at nursing homes and countless funerals. From their dry land days in Kiowa County they moved to Las Animas where he was the County Assessor for 19 years. Their final years together were spent in Canon City. Ben & Fern celebrated their 90th birthdays and their 71st wedding anniversary within this last year.
Ben is survived by his wife, Fern; daughter, Pat (Wilber) Thomas; son, Duane (Elsie) Lacy; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond & Tempa Lacy; twin grandsons, Kent & Keith, as well as nine brothers & sisters.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 15th at 2:00 p.m., at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend Bill Carson of the First Christian Church in Canon City officiating. Visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Bent County Cemetery in Las Animas.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
