Billie L. Johnson

May 31, 1942 — October 8, 2012

Billie L. Johnson went to be with his Savior and Lord Jesus on October 8, 2012. Even though he will be missed, his family is rejoicing in the fact that he is in the arms of Jesus.
Billie was born in La Junta, CO, on May 31, 1942, to Jack and Edith Johnson of Kim, CO.  The Johnson family later moved to La Junta when Billie was about 9 years old, making their home in the La Junta area.  Billie attended La Junta High School and joined the National Guard in 1962.  Upon returning to La Junta, he hired out with the Santa Fe Railroad where he made his 30-year career, ending in the position of Train Master at the La Junta Depot.  Billie also served our community on the La Junta City Council, representing Ward 2 for the last 4 years; recently resigning due to health complications.

Billie was a strong, fun-loving man who cherished his family and told them daily how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. Billie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and community member.  Billie married Sharron Sue (Allen) Johnson of Cheraw, CO, on July 10, 1966.  He is survived by his wife, Sharron; daughters, Tambra (Joseph) Bernal of Fountain and Debra Dutro of La Junta; grandchildren, Kreghan (Andrew) Eubank of La Junta, Christian, Ryhan, and Aeryn Bernal of Fountain, Matthew and Jonathon Dutro of Ft. Collins; great-grand child, Zoie Eubank of La Junta.  In addition, he is survived by his brothers, Danny (Donna) Johnson, Donnie (Dortha) Johnson, and Bennie Johnson of La Junta; Uncle Lloyd (Loyce) Goodwin of La Junta and Aunt Lois (Ernie) Love of Pueblo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Billie is preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack and Edith Johnson; father and mother-in-law, Gene and Viola Allen; and sister-in-law, Joy Johnson.
