Bob Lyons

Robert "Bob" Lee Lyons, 91, of La Junta, passed away July 19, 2012 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. He was born Feb. 9, 1921 to Tom & Mabel (Wilber) Lyons in La Junta. He married Maxine Bassett; she preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2010. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operation.

Bob owned and operated Star Cleaners for over 35 years. He was 67 year member with the La Junta Elks Lodge, #701.  Bob and Maxine enjoyed many wonderful summers at Blue Creek Lodge near Creede, Colorado.  Bob loved to bake, golf, fish, hunt, fixing his boat, music (singing and listening) and spending time with his family.

Bob is survived by his children, Sherry (John) Davidson of Las Animas and Tom Lyons of La Junta; grandchildren, Carrie (Randy) Babb of Colorado Springs, Tonya Davidson of Las Animas and Brad Davidson of Las Animas; great-grandchildren, Luke, Wyatt and Lindsey Babb, Hailey Davidson, Broc & Hannah Bender; sister, Olive Anderson of Vista, CA; brother-in-law, Lyle (Linda) Taylor of Raton, NM; sister-in-law, Donna Bassett of La Junta; daughter, Alpha (Clyde) Shreve of Ogden, UT and their children, Charity, Faith, Chris & Abe.  Many nieces, nephews and cousins survive.  Bob had many golfing, fishing and neighbor friends; Bob didn't know a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom & Mabel, his wife, Maxine, his sister, LaVina Robertson, his brother, John Lyons, brother-in-law, Chuck Bassett, sister & brother-in-law, Jerrie & Charles Head, and his cousin, Verna (Lee) Jones.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Seed and Supply Church, P.O. Box 111, Las Animas, CO, 81054 or to the Arkansas Valley Hospice Assoc., P.O. Box 408, La Junta, CO, 81050 direct or through the funeral home.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


A memorial service will be Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rod Coulter of the Seed & Supply Church in Las Animas officiating.
