Charles L. Darnell

Charles L. Darnell, 74, of Rocky Ford passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. Funeral services will be Friday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church in La Junta with Wayne Cathey officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Fairview Cemetery.
Charles was born June 22, 1935 in Las Animas to Jesse G. & Lena E. (Sisco) Darnell. He married Yvonne Skyles on Nov. 24, 1962 in Raton, NM; Yvonne preceded him in death on Mar. 21, 2003. He married Patricia Genest on Dec. 2, 2006 in La Junta. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during the Korean War. He worked for the Veterans Administration for over 30 years as a heavy equipment operator. He loved being a cowboy; horses, team penning and rodeos. Charles also loved being with his children, grandchildren and his pets. He will be greatly missed.
Charles is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Michael Wayne Darnell and Charles Scott (Donna) Darnell; daughter, Brenda Kaye (Frank) Neilsen; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces. He was preceded in death by her parents, wife, Yvonne, daughter Linda Gore, and brothers, LaVern & Jerry Darnell.
