Christina Stjernholm Allen

Christina Stjernholm Allen, 79, passed away March 27, 2010 at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. She was born to Esper & Lillie (Hansen) Stjernholm at the La Junta Mennonite Hospital on December 12, 1930. She graduated from Cheraw High School with the Class of 1949.

Christina married Johnnie Allen on August 19, 1951 in La Junta. She is survived by her husband of 58 years; eight children, Marilyn (Craig) Olesen of Rocky Ford, Lonnie Allen of Hewitt, Texas, Jerry (Becky) Allen of Olathe, Colorado, Myrl Allen of La Junta, Alan (Kathy) Allen of Denver, Colorado, Diana (Jim) Bender of La Junta, Mark Allen of La Junta, and Curtis (Sherry) Allen of La Junta; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers Alvin Stjernholm and Thomas Stjernholm; and a sister Marie Frey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Esper & Lillie Stjernholm; brothers, William, Ernest, and Elmer Stjernholm; and a sister, Viola Armstrong.

Christina liked and used her nickname “Teenie” and lived in the Cheraw community all her life. Her favorite ambitions included raising flowers, her church (Cheraw United Methodist Church for over 50 years), her family, and the art of food preparation. She was noted for her dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls. Teenie operated the Cheraw Café for several years, a cook at Winter’s Livestock Café for several years, and several other cafes throughout her life. She had an extensive doll collection, loved dogs, and eagerly awaited each weeks crossword puzzles appearing in the daily papers. Teenie and Johnnie lived and raised their children in the same address for 52 years.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church of La Junta with Reverend Tom Dudley of the Cheraw United Methodist Church officiating

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of local arrangements.
