Clay Edens

November 7, 1934 — May 29, 2018

Clay Edens, 83, passed away on May 29, 2018, at his Boone, Colorado home. He was born on November 7, 1934 in Roosevelt, Oklahoma to Myrle & Eula Essie (Bright) Edens.

Joining Marland Clay in the Edens family were his sisters, Gay Murle, Wyanda Joe, and Yolanda; brothers, Lee Ray and John. The Edens family moved from Roosevelt, Oklahoma to Kimble, Nebraska where Clay attended and graduated Kimble High School and continued schooling at Kemper Military Academy in Boonville, Missouri. Clay then finished out his eight years in the Marine Reserves at Buckley Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. In the meantime his father had purchased a farm in Boone, Colorado, and in 1955 Clay was working for this fiery little red headed dad and that is when his life truly began. In 1956 he married his soulmate Ferrel Norton, and they began their beautiful life of 63 loving years together. The family worked long hard days growing dryland crops, and raising cattle over the years. Clay and Ferrel were active members of the Highlands Baptist Church where Clay loved being the leader of the young people’s group.

In 1956 Clay and Ferrel had their one and only son Ferlin Clay Edens. In 1960 Clay and Ferrel bought the farm from his father and this is when Clay began his love for conservation, besides family conservation was Clay's greatest love. In 1976 Ferlin married Sharlin Harris, and in 1978 Clay's granddaughter Farah June was born. Then in 1982 Clay's grandson Faron was born. Next to family Clay found tremendous joy serving on the Olney Boone Soil Conservation District board for 50 years. Throughout the years Clay has won many awards, but he was most proud of being Conservationist of the year in 2016. Clay loved his family, friends, community, and the farming ranching life.

A celebration of life service will be Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Highlands Baptist Church in Boone with Reverend Stephen Hutto officiating.
