Dorothy Louise Moore

May 18, 1930 — October 11, 2019

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Louise Moore, 89, on October 11th, 2019. Born in Fowler on May 18th, 1930 to Claude and Ernestine Griswold, Dorothy resided in Rocky Ford, where she met and married Donald Vern Moore. The couple wed on June 1st, 1947 at First United Methodist Church and remained active members within the church and surrounding community. Don and Dot’s courtship included Friday night movie dates, weekend Dance-A-Thons, and fishing trips as the family grew.

In 1966, Dorothy began her 27-year career as a manager and cook with the Rocky Ford School District, where she was often complimented on the delicious meals she prepared. Dorothy also made yearly trips to Camp Jackson, west of Rye, to cook for the sixth grade campers who gathered in the spring. After retiring in 1993, she spent more time in her garden, planned for holidays with the family, and enjoyed afternoon coffee with her best friend.

Dorothy returned peacefully to God’s grace at Parkview Medical, in the company of her children. She is preceded in death by husband Donald, daughter Joan, sister Joyce, brother Richard, parents Claude and Ernestine, granddaughter Heather, and great granddaughter Sarah. She is survived by her children, John Richard Moore (Kathleen Ivy), Ronald Wayne Moore (Norma), Karen Sue Downey, James Dale Moore (Joan), and Alan Bruce Moore (Shelly), eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
