Duane James Martin

April 25, 1929 — June 28, 2012

Duane James Martin, 83, formerly of Fowler and Boone, passed away June 28, 2012 at the Crowley County Nursing Center.  He was born on April 25, 1929 in Crowley County to Westly Frances & Mary (Eagen) Martin.  He married Leona Sharp on Sept. 4, 1953 in Raton, New Mexico; she preceded him in death on June 11, 2008.

Duane graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo, CO. He was a member of the Douglas County Fair Board for 17 years and helped for many more years. He was an original member of the Douglas County Sheriff's Posse.  Duane was a ranch hand and ranch manager.

He is survived by siblings, John (Bobbie) Martin of Gunnison, CO, Pat (Kathy) Martin of Manzanola, CO, Clitus (Nadien) Martin of Fowler, CO, and Margrete of Boone, CO; children, Karen (Gary) Griego of Fowler, Debbie Martin of Fowler, Sheri (John) Dietz of Olney Springs, CO, Joleen (Shawn) Herring, of Fowler, Frank (Amanda) Martin of Walsenburg, CO, Vicki (Jason) Jackson of Crowley, CO, and Elizabeth (John) Pitts of North Pole, AK; grandchildren, Cody (Meghan) of Bayfield, CO, Jessie of Kansas, Justin of Hawaii, Trina (Jake) of Pueblo, Austin of Crowley, and Tyler of Walsenburg; great-grandchildren, Wyatt  Plymell and Madelyn Griego.

Duane was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Leona Martin; brothers, Mike & Frances Martin.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ray Shoop officiating. Interment will follow at the Higbee Cemtery. Visitation will be Monday, July 2, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
