Earl Eugene Hollis

Earl Eugene Hollis, 88, passed away on September 20, 2019 at his Swink home. He was born on July 1, 1931 to Earl and Martha (Pressnell) Hollis in La Junta. He married Gwendolyn “Gwen” J. Crane on September 14, 1950; she preceded him in death on October 17, 2010.

Earl was a member of the United States Air Force where he served for 21 years. Earl and Gwen had five sons and raised them during Earl’s Air Force Career. After Earl’s discharge from the military, the family returned home to Swink, where Earl and Gwen owned and operated Griffith Cleaners. They bought the business in 1976 and owned it for 16 years. Earl loved fishing and watching the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos.

Earl is survived by his sons, Gary (Linda) Hollis of La Junta; Terry Hollis of Swink; Kenneth Hollis of Mesa, AZ; Robert (Mary) Hollis of Tuttle, OK; daughter, Debbie Schandelmeier of Swink; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, wife, his brothers, Donald and Jack Hollis and son, Randy Hollis.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Swink United Methodist Church with military honors by the La Junta American Legion Post 9.
