Eddie G. Torrez, 58, of La Junta, passed away October 5, 2010 at the Denver Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born on May 25, 1952 in Dodge City, Kansas to Mike Villa & Rosa Guerrero Torrez.
Eddie attended La Junta schools graduating from La Junta High School with the Class of 1970. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War from 1972 to 1974. Eddie worked at Western Foods for 20 years, the Post Office for a year and at the Bent County Correctional Facility for 15 years.
Eddie was known for his booming loud voice, and his big heart. He liked gardening, watching westerns on tv, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was known by many and loved by all and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his father Mike of La Junta; wife, Lorraine Minniear-Torrez of La Junta; children, Kerri Beth (Torrez-Romero) Brittain and her husband Brandon of La Junta, Lonnie Minniear and his wife Veronica of Arvada, and Candace (Minniear) Ramsey-Blackburn and her husband Dave of Pueblo West; grandchildren, Kurtis, Drew & Sidney Romero, Justin & Dannielle Minniear, and Kaila & Taylor Ramsey; great-grandchild, Xavior Ramsey; brothers and sisters, Catalina (Jim Harris) Torrez of Plano, TX, Alvino Torrez of Dodge City, KS, Valentine Torrez of Dodge City, KS, Jleverto (Melinda) Torrez of Wichita, KS, Pedro Torrez of La Junta, Blas (Tammy) Torrez of Hugo, CO, Lydia (Mike Ayala) Torrez of Leoti, KS, and Jose (Darlene) Torrez of Santa Maria, CA; nieces and nephews, Matt, Eli, Michael, Tara & Sarah Torrez, and Chaka, Whitney & Quiency Harris. Eddie was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa on July 16, 1992.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Saturday, October 9, 2010, at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, October 8, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta.
