Edward Earl Hunnicutt

June 22, 1946 — November 14, 2020

Edward Hunnicutt, 74, passed away unexpectedly at his La Junta home on November 14th, 2020.

Ed is survived by his children, Jessica Warner of Wellington, CO; Edward Hunnicutt, II of San Jose, CA and Jonathan Hunnicutt of Sunnyvale, CA and nephew, Jerry Hasty of Avondale, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling and Bette Hunnicutt and his sister, Shirley Hasty.

Ed was born on June 22, 1946 in Oakland, CA. He graduated from La Junta High School in 1964, then went on to join the Navy, becoming a diver, a submarine navigator, and doing two tours in Vietnam as a Squadron Commander. After moving to San Francisco, CA, Ed began working in computers, becoming a computer engineer, taking classes at Stanford University. Over the next 20 years, he welcomed three children into the world and held positions at Martin Murrieta and Pepsi Co. He retired to La Junta in the mid-2000s.

Ed was accomplished in many different talents. He was a musician, mechanic, carpenter, financial advisor, historian, and most of all, proud patriot. He could fix your truck, mend your fence, do your accounting, and write you a song about it. He was a calm individual who enjoyed building guitars and talking about history, and he was passionate about citizen and political rights. He was an active and dedicated member of the Republican Party, as well as the Southern Colorado Livestock Association, where his donations supported scholarship programs. He also often volunteered at campaign and veteran events.
