Elizabeth Terry

December 4, 1920 — June 2, 2010

Elizabeth C. Terry, 89, of La Junta, CO, passed peacefully surrounded by family at St. Luke’s Hospital, Meridian, ID, on June 2, 2010.
She is survived by her son, Michael R. Holbrook, his wife Jean and her granddaughter Victoria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; her parents, Michael Joe and Ada Agnes Trainor; her son, Marvin E. Holbrook; and siblings Paul, Emmett, Dan, Earl and Mary Ada.
Affectionately known as “Betty”, she was born in Ordway, CO, on December 4, 1920, and graduated from Ordway High School and Colorado Springs Business College. She bore sons Michael and Marvin in a prior marriage. Betty married Keith Terry in 1959 and they enjoyed 49 years of marriage until Keith’s passing in 2008.
Betty is remembered as a wonderful and loving wife to Keith, mother to Michael and Marvin and grandmother to Victoria. She was a great friend to so many of the community of La Junta and her extended family, remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and other special events with a card and a personal note touching so many lives. Betty was a caring, loving person and a true Christian in spirit, manner and deeds. She was a long-standing active member of La Junta’s Catholic Parish serving on numerous church committees and volunteering for a myriad of church events.
Betty and Keith loved to travel the Southwest with friends from home. They were welcome guests at Indian Pueblos and trading posts all over Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. Their home was like a museum with paintings, photographs, and various artifacts from so many places. There were stories abound that accompanied these items and visits with their many friends.
Michael, Jean and Victoria are grateful to Betty’s many friends in the La Junta community and the parishioners of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for all of the assistance and visits that allowed Betty and Keith to remain in their home in their waning years. After Keith’s passing in 2008, Betty went to live with her son Michael’s family in Meridian, ID. Nevertheless, she remained in constant daily contact with this community until her passing.
Our mother and grandmother was a kind and loving woman who we all loved very much. We will miss her, but we are comforted knowing she had a long and wonderful life endowed with so many friends, and that she is now released from the pain of her body and with our Lord in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 10:00am. A rosary will precede the funeral mass at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of your choice.
