Ellen L. Goodwin, 79, of La Junta, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at her daughter’s home. Ellen was born in Cleveland, Oklahoma on December 22, 1930 to James Fred & Mary Bell (Ingle) Hodge. She married Troy Goodwin on December 5, 1946 in Raton, New Mexico; he preceded her in death on April 23, 1993.
Ellen loved and cherished her family and friends. There are so many memories of her in the kitchen with the grandkids at her side making cookies, helping with homework, in the garden tending the flowers, painting pictures, or at the lake baiting a hook for the littlest ones that were to afraid to do it themselves. She was a true inspiration to her family and friends. She was mostly cheerful and looked at life optimistically saying often “put a smile on your face.” Her grandchildren and children feel truly blessed that God had chosen her to be part of their journey in life. She will be missed but never forgotten.
She is survived by her daughters, Ginger Wood, Judy (Jack) Wisemon, and Toni (Robert) Lucero; sister, Lila Hurd; grandchildren, Michael (Rhonda) Goodwin, Selina (Shawn) Foley, Shirley (Mark) Montanez, Jennifer Thomas, Buster (Debbie) Thomas, Brandi (Justin) Crosson, Sabrina Lucero, and Breckley Wood; numerous great-grandchildren and several great, great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, James & Mary Hodge; siblings; husbands, Troy Goodwin, Lloyd Rains, and Richard Lutes.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend Ron Skorick officiating of the First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
