Ernest “Ernie” Guerrero, 81, of La Junta, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Brother Chris Johnson of the Maranatha Fellowship officiating.
Ernie was born Nov. 7, 1928 to Tiburcio & Maria Apolinar (Pacheco) Guerrero in La Junta. He married Pauline Palacio on August 16, 1948 in La Junta. Ernie worked at the Harvey House as a busboy; the Kit Carson Hotel & the Capri Motel as a chef, where he was known as the “Prime Rib King”; and he worked 17 years as a runway and grounds keeper at the City of La Junta Municipal Airport. He was a longtime member of the Marantha Fellowship. Ernie will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline of the La Junta family home; daughters, Margaret (Floyd) Espinoza of La Junta, Teresa (Harry) Fields of Las Vegas, NV, Helen (Edward) Pino of La Junta, and Ernestine (Ron) Wells, of Holcomb, KS; son, Daniel (Joni) Guerrero of Aurora, CO; sister, Mary Ramirez of California; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren survive.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Tiburcio and Maria Apolinar Guerrero, five brothers and 2 sisters.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
