Eugene V. Allen

May 8, 1922 — August 4, 2010

Eugene V. Allen went to be with his Savior and Lord Jesus, and to be reunited with his beautiful bride Viola, on August 4, 2010. Even though he will be missed, his family is rejoicing in the fact that he is in Jesus’ presence and in His loving arms. Gene was confident in the fact of Jesus’ grace and His promise; “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”, and Gene is indeed there singing praises to Jesus and loving on Viola.

Gene was born in Leach, Oklahoma on May 8, 1922 to George Delbert and LaVina (Cole) Allen. The entire Allen family migrated from Leach in 1929 and settled in the Holbrook Community in a move that Gene always referred to as the true “Grapes of Wrath”. Gene attended school and graduated from Cheraw High School in 1940. Later that year he joined the US Navy, where he served in the Atlantic theater during World War II, including the D-Day landing at Normandy. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Gene married Viola Mae Box on July 19, 1946 in Rocky Ford, and they settled in the Holbrook Community where they farmed until his retirement. On July 24, 1966 Gene committed his life and heart to Jesus. He was a member of Valley Community Church of Rocky Ford.

He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed greatly by his entire family; who are rejoicing at the blessed reunion of their parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharron and her husband Billie Johnson of La Junta; sons, Dennis and his wife Linda Allen of Greeley and Weldon and his wife Jan Allen of Grand Junction; granddaughters, Tami (Joey) Bernal of Fountain, Debbie Dutro of La Junta, Christi (Marco) Montez of Grand Junction; grandsons, Trevor (Nicky) Allen of Grand Junction, Chris Allen of Sterling; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sister-in-laws, Zoma Allen of Denver, Lea Box of Seattle, Washington, Norma Jean Lloyd of Rocky Ford, and LaVerne Pachta of Bosque Farms, N.M.; brother-in-law, Edgar Eugene (Edith) Box of Henderson, Nevada, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, & 8 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 7, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at the Valley Community Church with Reverend Kurt England officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 6, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to Valley Community Church or Camp Salvation, 27435 County Road 22.75, Rocky Ford, CO, 81067 direct or through the funeral home.
