Eva Hernandez

December 9, 1926 — December 22, 2019

Eva Hernandez, 93, a life time resident of La Junta passed away on December 22, 2019, at her La Junta home where she lived with her daughter, Mary Chavez. She was born on December 9, 1926 in Fowler to Sam & Josephine (Zalcedo) Florez. She married Phillip G. Hernandez on June 10, 1945 in La Junta.

She worked in the fields and at Western Canning. She belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe/ St. Patrick Parish. She had strong faith was always praying before and after her meals and prayed for everyone else, during her illness she still continued to pray for everyone she loved. Eva was a Denver Bronco fan always loved watching the game with her family.

She is survived by her children, Rose Alatorre of Pueblo, CO; Annie Casique of La Junta; Augustine Hernandez of Pueblo; Mary (Tony) Chavez of La Junta; Kristine (Tom) Montoya of La Junta; Jean (Richard Marques) Hernandez of La Junta; Joan (Julian) Otero of Pueblo; Vicky (Ernest) Martinez of La Junta; Eleanor (Tom Grosso) Montoya of Pueblo West, CO; Ruben Hernandez of Rocky Ford; Phillip Hernandez, Jr. of La Junta; Sam (Corinna Pacheco) Hernandez of Pueblo; Leonard Hernandez of Pueblo and Mark (Barbara) Hernandez of Pueblo; sisters, Mollie Encinias of Westminster, CO; 55 grandchildren, 137 great-grandchildren and 39 great, great-grandchildren; and one great, great, great-grandchild; also survived by nephews, nieces, brother-in-law, sister-in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Frank Hernandez; brother, Donald Florez; sisters, Helen Asebedo, Jennie Montoya, Bertha Gonzales; son-in-law, Ben Montoya; grandchildren, Christopher Martinez, Jeramiah Gutierrez, Anthony Hernandez and Erin Gonzales.

We would like to thank the staff at Arkansas Valley Hospice for caring for our mother, they showed true compassion towards our mother and our family.

Recitation of the Rosary will be Friday, December 27, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10: a.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe with Father Henry Wertin officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
