Evelyn Irene Harp

Evelyn Irene Harp, 91, of La Junta, Colorado, passed away on December 25, 2012, in Broomfield, Colorado.

Evelyn Irene Alexander was born in Enid, Oklahoma to Manring and Phoebe Alexander on January 27, 1921. She attended high school in Arkansas City, Kansas and graduated in 1939. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1944. Her first teaching job was in Protection, Kansas. She then moved to Las Animas, Colorado to further her teaching career. There she met her husband, Glendon E. Harp, and they were married on February 14, 1948 in Alva, Oklahoma. They later moved to La Junta and made their home there in 1955. They welcomed to their family two children, Timothy and Tanya. After the death of her husband in 1963, she began teaching at Columbian Elementary School. She taught there for 24 years. Following retirement, she was very active in the Retired Teachers Association of La Junta. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her son Tim and wife Liz of Broomfield, CO, daughter Tanya and husband Joe Phillips of Alva, OK, grandchildren Austin Harp of Broomfield, CO, Jake Phillips of Oklahoma City, OK and Pete and Taryn Phillips of Alva. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, former students, and friends.

Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church of La Junta on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Tom Dudley of United Methodist Church of Cheraw officiating.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
