Evelyn Mae Rhodes May 1, 1928 – May 22, 2009 Evelyn Mae Rhodes, 81, of Swink, passed away on May 22, 2009, at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be Monday, June 1, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend Tom Dudley of the Swink United Methodist Church officiating. Internment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.
She was born on May 1, 1928, in Hoytville, Ohio to Donald E. & Mildred M. (Smith) Reynolds. She married Leland C. Rhodes on May 27, 1949 in Swink, Colorado. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1997. She grew up and attended school in Hoytville, graduating from Troy High School in 1946. That same year her family relocated to the Fairmount area of Otero County, Colorado. Evelyn and Leland made their home in Swink. She was involved in numerous local communities, educational and church organizations, as a member and also holding positions of authority.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Tom) Schrock of Swink; Gary Rhodes of La Junta; and Lawrence Jay (Sheila) Rhodes of Swink; grandchildren, Justin (Shaunna) Schrock, Chad (Heather) Schrock, Kassandra (Mike) Martin, Tyler Rhodes, Ethan Rhodes, Kaylee Rhodes, Ashley (Senech) Fletcher, and Kara King; Nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Elmer “Bud” Reynolds and Bill (Tudy) Reynolds; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Donald & Mildred Reynolds; husband, Leland Rhodes on February 27, 1997; brother; daughter-in-law; two sister-in-laws.
