Flora Loretta Scott

Flora Loretta Scott, 77 of La Junta passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center on Friday, June 24, 2011. She was born on September 13, 1933 in Butler County, Missouri to Oscar Joseph & Eunice E. (Gowen) Pennington. She married Clyde M. Scott, Sr. on June 3, 1953 in Clay County, Arkansas.
    Loretta was an avid learner and worked at several occupations during her life. She was an office manager for the Western Union Office in Rocky Ford, before taking time off to raise her children. She later worked in an insurance office; was a reporter for several newspapers, including the Pueblo Chieftain, Bent County Democrat, Arkansas Valley Journal and the La Junta Tribune – Democrat; and was also a caregiver for the elderly.
    Loretta enjoyed gardening, painting, photography, sewing, playing bridge and spending time with her family and friends. If she didn’t know how to do something, she would figure it out. She will be remembered for her quick wit, great sense of humor and her love for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
    Loretta is survived by her children Clyde M. (Kathie) Scott, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; David Joe Scott of La Junta; Judy (Kurt) Menges of La Junta; Susan (David) Malott of Swink; brothers John (Betty) Pennington of Union, MO; Ronald Pennington; sister Linda Pennington of Poplar Bluff, MO; sister-in-law Pat Pennington of Leigh High Acres, FL; former spouse Clyde M. Scott, Sr. of La Junta; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Kenneth Lee Scott, brother Wesley Pennington, and three infant brothers.
    Memorial service will be Friday, July 1, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Peacock Memorial Chapel. Family and friends will be received at the Harmony Hall in La Junta following service.
