Franklin Ronald Hicks

November 23, 1944 — March 26, 2013

Franklin Ronald Hicks, 68, passed away on March 26, 2013 at his Rocky Ford home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on November 23, 1944 in Pueblo, Colorado and was adopted by Russell Lloyd & Pearl Winona (Vandersnick) Hicks in 1952.  He married Joyce Faye Morley on September 20, 1963. They made their home in Rocky Ford for the last several years and in California for 11 years. 
Frank attended Manzanola Schools and was employed as a welder in California and Rocky Ford for 48 years. While working at Oliver Manufacturing Frank received the Mac award and the outstanding employee of the year in 1994. He retired from Oliver Manufacturing in 2010. Frank was an ordained Deacon serving in Fillmore, California, and Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Rocky Ford and Cheraw Baptist Chapel. He loved his Lord and Savior and would not miss a Sunday Worship time, he always felt his calling was to be a peacemaker. He’ll be remembered as a dedicated Christian and loved to be an example of love for his Lord. Frank has a terrific sense of humor and was nearly always joking with someone. He kept everybody laughing with him.
Frank is survived by his wife, Joyce of the Rocky Ford home; son, Steven (Laura) Hicks of Cheraw, daughter, Joanne (Chad) Geist of Ouray; grandchildren, Jennifer (Chaz) Baca of Rocky Ford, Cory (Tiffany) Geist of Montrose, Cody Geist of Greeley, Brittany Farmer of La Junta,  Shaun Hicks of Cheraw, Kamryn Hicks of Campo; great-grandchildren, Raelynne, Alexis, and Alyssa Baca, Donovan Romero, and Ayden, Kayden, Taylor, Tessa Geist, Lilianna, Casen Farmer; sisters, Debi (Bruce) Wiskirchen of Scottsdale, AZ, Regina (Dewey) Jackson of Lorena, TX, and Tami McDowell of Temple, TX; brother, Butch (Malinda) Frazier of Las Animas; sister, Leona Rutherford of Covinton, TN; sister-in-law, Wanda Castor of Trinidad, TX; uncles, David (Leona) Miller of Trinidad, and Stanley Hicks of Lamar; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George Castor, sister, Joann Jones, and brother-in-law, Reggie McDowell.
The family would like to thank the Arkansas Valley Hospice, and the Rocky Ford Fire and Ambulance Department for their outstanding services.
In lieu of flowers those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to the Cheraw Baptist Chapel, PO 154, Cheraw, CO, 81030 direct or through funeral home.
 

Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Cheraw Baptist Chapel with Reverend Steven Hicks officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Peacock Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be Monday, April 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Rocky Ford Cemetery.
