Gertrude V. Diaz

Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Gertrude V. Diaz, 81, of La Junta, passed away on November 8, 2012 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center.  She was born on November 15, 1930 in La Junta, Colorado to Jose & Felicitas (Vega) Vasquez. She married Joe Diaz of Skinner, Colorado on February 16, 1952 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Junta, Colorado; he preceded her in death on November 12, 1988.
Gertrude attended school in La Junta, Colorado. Jose & Gertrude lived in Cheraw, Colorado for a brief time before making their permanent home in La Junta where she raised 11 children. She loved her children and years later grandchildren followed of whom all became the loves of her life. Gertrude had many friends and was known to them as “Tula”. She had a wonderful way of drawing people to her. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, sewing, knitting, making clothes for her children, and loved cooking. She was highly involved in The Catholic Church and she loved her Lord and Savior. She resided the last five years of her life at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center where she was very well cared for.

Gertrude is survived by her children, Joey Diaz of  Pueblo CO;  Louie (Patty) Diaz of Fernley, NV; David (Veronica) Diaz of McAllen, TX;  John (Carrie) Diaz of Liberal, KS; Euphrasia "Becky" (Joe) Valadez of Liberal, KS; Mary Ann (Felix) Amiya of Rocky Ford, CO;  Andy Diaz of Pueblo, CO; Dorothy Diaz of Albuquerque, NM; Gertrude P. Diaz of Liberal, KS;  Mike (Anna) Diaz of Albuquerque, NM; and  Peter Diaz of La Junta, CO;  several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren ; one brother Willie (Maurilio) Vasquez of Colorado Springs, CO.  Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Louise Valverde, and baby sister Socrrow Vasquez.
 

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Thaddeus Onuemagbu officiating. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
