Grace Mondragon

September 9, 1919 — December 5, 2011

Grace Mondragon, 92, of La Junta passed away on Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo.
She was the first child born to Juan and Bertha Montoya on Sept. 9, 1919 in Taos, N.M. She was big sister to ten more siblings.
 
She is survived by sons Tony (Helen) Mondragon of Grand Junction, John (Nellie) Mondragon of La Junta, Alfonso Mondragon of Springfield, Mo. and Arnold Mondragon of the family home; daughters Martha Mondragon of the family home, Theresa (Warren) Andress of La Junta, Ruby (Sam) Ponce of La Junta and Bertha Marie Mondragon of Pueblo; sisters, Sarah Leatherwood, Eliza Magana, Margie Melgoza, Bessie Bravo, Edna Cordova, and Bertha Adame; brothers, James & Daniel Montoya; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Antonio Mondragon on Aug. 11, 1978,  two infant sons, daughter, Isabel Reyes, sister, Pauline Aceves, grandson, Michael Mondragon, and great-grandson, Mario Mondragon. 
 
She was a very hard working wife and mother, working at Our Lady of Guadalupe School, Santa Fe Hospital, Columbian School and the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. She belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Church and was very devoted to her religion. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America since 1973, holding Grand Regent from 1986 to 1990. She also belonged to Circle 5 since 1962. She was involved every year with the church bazaar, the fall festival and any other church related activity. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, sewing, cooking, reading, and family, friends and her prayer readings.
 
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, December 9, 2011; at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Interment will follow the Mass at the Calvary Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow interment at the Parish Hall. Visitation will be Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home.
