Harold A. Block

Harold A. Block, 87, of La Junta, passed away July 23, 2010 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. Harold was born in Ulysses, Nebraska on September 25, 1922 to William & Ellen (Logi) Block.
He married Bertha Smith on May 28, 1960. Harold farmed in Amherst, Colorado until 1972, when the couple purchased their first motel in Montrose, Colorado. In 1978 he purchased the Stage Coach Motel in La Junta and operated it until his retirement in 2007. Harold loved to fish and golfing at the Rocky Ford course. He enjoyed carpentry, wood working and generally fixing things. Harold never saw an old piece of wood that couldn’t be put to some use. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bertha of the La Junta home; son, Kelly (Dawn) Block of La Junta; granddaughter, Brandie (Dru) Hoffman of La Junta; sisters, Laura Knapp of Cortez, CO and Jessie (Haral) Shields of Farmington, NM; sister-in-law, Berdeen Block of Grand Junction, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leonard, Walter, Emmett, and William Block.
A celebration of life service will be Friday, July 30, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Rocky Ford, with Reverend Rick Miller officiating.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
