Helen Frye Strain, 92, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Pueblo, Colorado. Mrs. Strain died at sunrise – as the sun was rising across the mountains and the sky was a beautiful pink – it was her favorite time of day. A memorial service in celebration of Mrs. Strain’s life, will be held at the Beulah United Methodist Church, Beulah, CO, on Saturday, April 25th at 10 a.m.She was born July 11, 1916 in La Junta to J. Frank & Georgia (Sumpter) Frye. She attended North La Junta Elementary School and graduated from La Junta High School in 1935. She attended Barnes Business College, La Junta, and Colorado Woman’s College in Denver.Mrs. Strain married George L. Strain, her high school sweetheart on June 19, 1940 in La Junta. While George was Special Agent for the FBI they lived in Detroit, Mich., Buffalo, N.Y., Louisville, KY., New York, N.Y., and Washington, D.C. before returning to La Junta to raise their family. After enjoying a summer cabin in Beulah Valley, for many years, George and Helen moved to Beulah in 1992 and became full time residents.Mrs. Strain was a life-long Methodist, and most recently attended the Beulah United Methodist Church. She was a member of Chapter W, PEO while living in La Junta and presently of Chapter FW in Pueblo, Colorado. She was also active in Beulah Belles, a community women’s organization and the Beulah Historical Society.Music was a major part of her life. She contributed her vocal talents to church choirs, quartets, duets, and as a soloist for community events for many years.Mrs. Strain was revered as a consummate homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and mother in law. She enjoyed the cycles of the seasons, landscaping, travelling, and collecting plants for her flower gardens. She never tired of living in and viewing the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, the cycles of the seasons and the majesty of nature.Mrs. Strain is survived by her husband George, daughters, Sharon (Jon) Kolomitz and Susan (Bub) Miller both of La Junta; sons, George Lee (Connie) Strain, Jr.of Mandeville, LA; Gregory Dean Strain of Beulah; brother, Harold W. “Bill” (Ruthie) Frye of Beulah; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Everett of Ft. Collins and cousins Marie Hall of Beulah and Robin Hall Moritz of Pueblo. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Gregory Jon (Carla) Kolomitz of Denver; Kara Christine (Chris Condlin) Kolomitz of Natick, Mass; Christopher Kolomitz of Salida, CO; Marcus Laughrun (Kara) Deyerin of Bellingham, Wash; Michelle Lee Miller of Metarie, La.; Corey Lee (Jill) Strain of Folsum, La.; Kyle (Kristy) Strain of Madisonville, La.; and Kevin Strain, currently stationed at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida; nine nieces and nephews and eight much loved great grandchildren. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
