Herbert "Herb" Lewis Schwien

Herbert “Herb” Lewis Schwien, 87, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at the Emporia Place, his home for the last two years. Herb was born Feb. 14, 1930, in Rocky Ford, Colorado, the son of Ferdinand and Leah (Grasmick) Schwien.

He was a Division Manager at Citizens Utility Company – Colorado for 25 years until his retirement 25 years ago. Herb served in U.S. Navy, was a past president of the La Junta Lions Club, past president of the La Junta Chamber of Commerce, past president of the La Junta School Board, and chairman of the La Junta Housing Authority.

Herb married Norma Joan “Jo” McDaniel on Nov. 1, 1949, in San Diego, California. She died Jan. 26, 1994, in La Junta, Colorado. He then married Lois Stevens, they later divorced. Herb is survived by a son, Greg Schwien of Emporia, Kansas; daughters Lu Olmsted and husband Jerry of Emporia, Sheree Blair and husband Jay of Emporia; grandchildren Leslie Lloyd, Drew Lloyd, Michael Lloyd, Tate Blair, great-grandchildren Addie Baumgardner, Aidyn Bontrager and Amos Bontrager. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jo and an infant sister, Kathryn Schwien.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
