Howard W. Luehring

Howard W. Luehring, 80, of La Junta, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Joni Fair Hospice House in Pueblo. He was born on December 8, 1930 in Hanover, Kansas to William & Mary (Drumuller) Luehring.

After graduating high school in 1949, Howard enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Upon his tour of duty he attended DeVry Tech Institute in Chicago, IL. While in Chicago he met Rita, married, and moved to Manhattan, Kansas where Howard was a chief engineer for KMAN Radio Station. He started his career with the Santa Fe Railroad in 1960 and after 33 years of service as the ‘radio man’ traveling all over the western U.S., Howard retired in 1993. Howard was a member of the VFW, Amateur “Ham” Radio Club, and Full Businessmen’s Gospel Association.

Howard is survived by his wife Rita of the La Junta home; three sons Dennis (Bea) Luehring of Loveland, CO; Robert (Mary) Luehring of Scottsbluff, NE; and Ron (Judy) Luehring of Lakewood, CO; sister Fern (Dale) Obermeyer of Marysville, KS; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Luehring; brothers Wilber and James.

Funeral service will be Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Crossroads Church in Swink with Pastor Mike Beecham officiating. Visitation will be Friday, July 29, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow after service at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.
