Iona Lee "Noni" Hunter

April 20, 1919 — December 28, 2010

Iona Lee “Noni” (La Fever) Hunter, 91, of Colorado Springs and formerly of La Junta passed away December 28, 2010 at the Pikes Peak Hospice. She was born on April 20, 1919 in Delphos, Kansas to Raymond & Nellie (Brewer) Meredith she was the eldest of five children.
   She married Cleal Olen “C. O.” LaFever on June 7, 1939; they were married almost 48 years.  C. O. passed away in 1987. She married Raymond Earl Hunter at the Methodist Church in Salida in 1990. 
    Iona was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church. She belonging to the Tuesday Literary and she enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the P.T.A., and the boys and girl scouts. Mrs. Hunter started a Day Nursery in the mid 1950’s and also provided housing for College students in her home during the mid 1960’s. She started and operated the first Telephone Answering Service in La Junta in the 1970’s. In her later years she worked at George’s Jewelry Store and helped with other businesses in town.  She was an avid business woman throughout her entire working career and a dedicated homemaker.      
    She loved crocheting, sewing and dabbling in ceramic works. There were always cats and small dogs in her life. She was a big fan of the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos and the Colorado Avalanche. Regardless of the endeavors, Iona’s enthusiasm, heart, faith, and love shined through. 
    She is survived by her husband, Raymond Hunter of the Colorado Springs home; children, Terry (Lynn) La Fever of Colorado Springs, CO; Jim (Diane) La Fever of Lake George, CO; and Ja’nine (Marcus) Ward of Buena Vista, CO; sisters, Jean Crisp of Dallas, TX; and Winifred “Winnie” Wohlgemuth of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members and friends also survive. 
    Graveside services were held at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Judy Owsley of the Central United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs officiating.
