J.R. Hollingsworth

August 14, 1934 — May 21, 2020

J.R. Hollingsworth, 85, passed away on May 21, 2020 at his Rocky Ford home. He was born on August 14, 1934 in Crandall, Mississippi to Olin & Rosalee (Harrington) Hollingsworth. He married Beverly S. Jones in 1956.

He worked in construction for several years and then at the Chrysler Corp for about 18 years. He moved his family to Mississippi where he built ships at Ingalls Shipyard for several years. The six children all graduated from school there. They stayed there through several hurricanes and then moved to Colorado with only two children left at home. While in Mississippi all 10 of them were involved in a program called the KING IS COMING they all had their part to do. The kids were actors in the play, Beverly sang in the choir and J.R. drove the equipment bus. This was a great family thing for all of them. They all were presenting the gospel to numerous people in several other states, which they all enjoyed.

He worked at a bakery for several years, then worked at Sterns & Rogers for a long time before he retired. You could always tell him what kind of gadget you needed to do something and he would come up with something that worked very well.

He and Beverly moved to Rocky Ford in 1999, where they both became involved in the community and did a lot of volunteer work. He built a covered wagon for a vacation bible school one summer, it was a big challenge but he did it anyway and did an excellent job.

He enjoyed taking his family fishing, camping and they would go on a family vacation every year. He was an excellent husband and father. He loved his family very much and they always came first in his life.

J.R. is survived by his wife, Beverly of Rocky Ford; sister, Carol (Boots) Lambert of Holiday, FL; sons, Douglas (Sherry) Hollingsworth, Randy (Nancy) Hollingsworth, Greg (Margaret) Hollingsworth, Dennis (Lisa) Hollingsworth, and Mike Hollingsworth; daughters, Brenda (Clarence) Kraft and Robyn (Greg) Harman; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jack Hollingsworth, sister, Alice Jewel; grandchildren, Timothy & Amanda Hollingsworth; great-grandchild, James Bolejack.
