Jack Bea Ashcraft

January 25, 1937 — June 14, 2020

Jack Bea Ashcraft, 83, formerly of Clearwater, MN and Phar, TX passed away on June 14, 2020 at the Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo as the results of complications due to renal cell carcinoma with family by his side. He was born on January 25, 1937 in Friona, Texas to Harlan Walter & Cordelia (O’Hair) Ashcraft.

He was the youngest of four brothers and one sister. The family moved to the Rocky Ford/La Junta/Las Animas area. He served honorably in the US Army and received an AA degree in Science from OJC in La Junta.

After his discharge from the Army, he joined his brother, Walter running a gas station in La Junta. He worked for a short time with the SFRR before beginning a 34 year tenure at FLMC where he retired in 1992 most recently as Electrical Foreman.

Jack had an infectious smile and lived to tell his embellished stories to anyone who would listen but mostly to the grandchildren. He was quick witted and always looking for a laugh.

After his retirement, Jack and Janet lived in Dublin, GA and Salt Lake City, UT, where Janet was still employed by the VA. While in Utah Jack owned and operated Foothill Yogurt & Coffee Shop and Jan’ Cookie Store. After selling these businesses they became fulltime RVers and eventually making their home in McAllen & Phar, Texas where they both became involved in the activities of three W.T. RV parks.

Upon his diagnosis of Cancer, his wishes was for Janet & him to return to his Colorado roots and to be closer to their children which they were able to do.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Janet Ashcraft; sons, Jay Ashcraft of Grand Junction, CO and Eddie Ashcraft of Westminster, CO; step-daughters, Kristine (Ken) Baylor of Manzanola and Laura (Jerry) Eberly of Edmond, OK; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three half-sisters, Bobbie Schleining of Westminster, CO; Mollie (Clay) Dible and Vicki (Dennis Fenn) Atkinson all of Wichita, KS; and half-brother, Ben Atkinson of Westminster, CO; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Eleanor; four brothers, one sister, three infant children, Jackie Ray, Dale Lee and Valerie Lynn.

As per Jack’s request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Sunday, July 5, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Brandon Mills of the First Southern Baptist Church in La Junta officiating.
