Jack W. England, 89, of Rocky Ford, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at his Rocky Ford home. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 1, 2009 from noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Peacock Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will Monday, February 2nd at 11:00 a.m., at the Lamar Missionary Baptist Church, 507 South 14th Street in Lamar with Reverend John Morrison officiating. Internment will follow at the Fairmount Cemetery with Military Honors by the Ft. Carson Honor Team.
Jack was born on August 27, 1919 to William & Arvilla (Preston) England in May Valley, Colorado. He married Velma June DeWitt on October 3, 1940 in Ulysses, Kansas.
Jack graduated from Lamar High School Class of 1937. He served in the US Army during WWII through the European Theatre. He farmed in the Channing & May Valley area and Hopewell for 26 years. He worked at Cross Manufacturing & Neoplan where he retired in 1999. Jack resided for the last five years at the Cottonwood Ridge in Rocky Ford.
He is survived by his wife, Velma of the Rocky Ford home; sons, Kurt (Paula) England of La Junta; Doug (Lynda) England of Ordway; Dale (Lucy) England of Salida, CO; daughters, Vickie (Greg) Strong of Colorado City, CO; Debra England of Scottsbluff, NE; brother, Homer “Chub” England of Holly, CO; sister, Wilma Egleston of Seattle, WA. 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren also survive.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, William & Arvilla England; brothers, Charles & Clyde England.
