James Julius Rodriguez

June 19, 1942 — February 2, 2021

James Julius Rodriguez, 78, of Swink entered into eternal life on February 2, 2021 at Fowler Nursing Home. He was born on June 19, 1942 in Colorado Springs to Jose Felix & Guadalupe (Terrazas) Rodriguez.

He was raised in Swink where he attended school and graduated in 1962. He was very active in football and basketball. After high school he joined the Air Force and he served honorably for four years. He enjoyed many years working on the railroad.

James was a loving and devoted father and he took great delight in hard work and serving others. He loved Jesus more than anything, and he always had a good corny joke to tell! He also loved his church family (Church of Christ). He never met a stranger, and never missed an opportunity to share “The Good News!”

He is survived by his daughters, Sandi (Garlon, Sr.) Guerin and Dawn Romero; six grandchildren, Kevin Romero, Aeryn (Ryan) Adams, Audra (Chris) Winstead, Amara Romero, Kyrah and Garlon, Jr. Guerin; great-grandchildren, Melina, Addisen, Mackenzy, Dustin, Emma and Phoenix; sisters, Pauline (Johnny) Ramirez and Jane (Ernie) Hernandez. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Enjinyo Rodriguez, John, Benji, Rufus, Richard, James Baca and George; sisters, Madalena Rodriguez, Josie Montez, Mary Rodriguez and Connie Moreno.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ of La Junta with Pastor Terry Smalling and Pastor Garlon Guerin officiating. Military honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion Post #8.
