James N. Ard, Sr.

May 27, 1951 — August 2, 2012

James Neal Ard Sr., better known as “Jim”, passed away at age 61 in his La Junta home on the evening of August 2nd. He was born on May 27, 1951 to his parents Fannie Mae Perkins and Gilbert Arthur Ard in Pueblo, CO.

He grew up in Pueblo and continued to live in this same area the rest of his life as he loved Colorado, especially the Rocky Mountains. His favorite activities were football (He was an avid Bronco’s fan), gardening, camping, fishing and drawing, reading his Bible, computer games, eating great food, and conversing with others. He had many hobbies which were dear to his heart, although he had many people that were even closer. His passion was teaching the word of Jesus Christ to everyone he met, and he was always willing to offer help however he could to those in need.

Jim was a veteran of the Air Force and a member of the Living Way Full Gospel Church of La Junta. He was very close with his children and grandchildren and had a family of caretakers and nurses which he loved very much. His best friend of forty-four years, Les Tooker, played “World of Warcraft” with Jim every single night for several hours and he often bragged to everyone about his achievements in the game the morning after.

His family and friends would describe Jim as a wonderful father, loyal friend, and a devoted servant to the Lord. He had a great sense of humor and was always smiling and laughing. He loved to spend time relaxing in his recliner, watching The Bible Network and playing with his grandson Jude. His youngest children June and Jimmy lived with and cared for him and enjoyed spending time with him.

He is survived by his mother Fannie Mae Bernard and his six brothers and sisters Stan Ard, Gil “Butch” Ard, Rick Ard, Sheryl Southey, Debbie Armstrong and Paulette Mapes. He is also survived by his sons James Ard Jr. and Patrick Emry, and his daughters Julie Ard, June Ard and Jennifer Daniels, including his grandchildren Jude, Christina, Makayla and Jonathan; he also leaves behind his former wife and good friend Jill Hollar and his best friends, Les Tooker and Don Armstrong. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of Arrangments. Complete obituary will follow.

Jim’s family will be receiving friends for a public viewing and a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta from 5-7 p.m. His wishes were to be cremated, which will take place afterward.
