Jim F. Hollenback, 77, of La Junta, passed away Oct. 27, 2010 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. Jim was born October 8, 1933 in Campo, Colorado. He married Opal M. Crane on December 14, 1953 in Raton, New Mexico.
Jim retired from the U.S. Forest Service on May 13, 1994. Jim was members of the American Quarter Horse Association, National Cutting Horse Association, and the Souther Colorado Cutting Horse Association. He also enjoyed volunteering his time teaching children about fire safety and fires and was “Smokey the Bear.”
Jim is survived by his wife, Opal of the La Junta home; children, Debbie (Greg) Storey of La Junta; Shelly (Richard Evans) Hollenback of Rocky Ford; grandson, Hunter Evans; special nephew, Leon Hollenback; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. & Meryl G. Hollenback; four brothers, two sisters; daughter, Paula and granddaughter, Stacy.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gail Allen of the Cowboy Church officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
