Jim Kerr, 63, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2009, at his La Junta home. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Nazarene in La Junta.
He was born on August 23, 1945, in Las Animas, Colorado to Noel & Jewel (Jones) Kerr.
Jim was a coach and teacher at Peetz, CO for 8 years. He also was the Horsemanship Director at the Colorado Boys Ranch for over 15 years. Jim was able to do what he loved; breeding and training race horses. He trained two paint champion horses and traveled all over racing his own horses and achieving 100’s of wins over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of the La Junta home; sons, Shawn Kerr of Ordway; Dustin (Shannon) Kerr of Brush, CO; Tyson (Jennifer) Kerr of Sterling, CO; Trent (Erin) Kerr of Wiggins, CO; brothers & sisters, Lorena Bogner of Las Animas; Linda (Charles) Patterson of Las Animas; Nola Camfield of McClave, CO; Jean (Bill) Turner of Longmont, CO; David (Patsy) Kerr of Cheraw, CO; Gary (Pearl Hodges) Kerr of Folwer, CO; Sandy (Merle) Singer of La Junta, CO; Diana Channel of McClave, CO; Pat (John) Veltri of Gill, CO; grandchildren, Jaimmie Kerr of Ordway, CO; Alyssa Kerr of Beaver City, NE; Madison & Logan Kerr; Preston, Haley & Landen Kerr; Cole & Kennedy Kerr; one great-granddaughter, Rylee Kerr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noel & Jewel Kerr; brothers, Charles, Kenneth, George Kerr; sister, Martha Weirich; brothers-in-laws, Alvin Bogner & Gene Camfield.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Colorado Boys Ranch, PO Box 681, La Junta, CO, 81050 or to the Chaplaincy at Arapahoe Park direct or through the funeral home.
