Joan Mary Woody

February 9, 1947 — April 29, 2021

Joan Mary Irene Hopkins Woody was born on February 9, 1947, to Harold and Gwen Hopkins in the Blotz Hospital in Rocky Ford and died April 29, 2021. She graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1965 and attended a data processing school in Kansas City, MO.

In 1966, she married Jake Woody and moved to Littleton and began raising a family. She is survived by her husband and two children, John and Jackie; three grandchildren, Kimberly, Sean and David; and three great-grandchildren, Adalynn, Xavier and Rylie; and brother, Harold E. Hopkins, Jr.

The family returned to Rocky Ford in 1975 at which time Joan began working for the Rocky Ford Daily Gazette. After several years, she accepted a position with the Ag Journal in La Junta. The Ag Journal was purchased by Express Printers and she continued working for them until she contracted West Nile Virus in 2006, at which time she became disabled.

Joan was active in Boy Scouts and participated in the Wood Badge training program ultimately being named the District Committee Chair, the liaison between the Council and the troops.

Joan enjoyed needlework, especially crocheting, and was a talented seamstress. But, she considered her raising her kids as her greatest accomplishment.

At the request of the family, no service will be held.
