Jona Lofing

May 26, 1931 — December 28, 2019

Jona (Jay/Junior) Lofing was born May 26, 1931 in Sugar City, Colorado and passed away December 28, 2019 in La Junta, Colorado. He was the youngest son of Volga German immigrants and worked long days on the family farm raising sugar beets.

He attended Sugar City grade school. He then worked for National Sugar Company and Garden City Company of Garden City Kansas for 12 years. While working for CR Lusk and Sons he met Linda Sue Cummings whom he married June 27, 1971. He started employment for Otero County Bridge Crew in 1973 and retired 31 years later from Road and Bridge as district one foreman. Jay was a born again Christian and was a member of Valley Community Church.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Henry and Margaret Lofing, three brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Lofing; son, Tim (Kristina) Lofing; grand-daughters, Kelli and Megan Lofing; sister-in-laws, Anna Lofing and Leona Irvin; brother-in-law, Leon (Darlene) Cummings; sons, Barry Lofing, Bart Lofing; daughters, Bonnie (Jerry) Jensen & Beverlee Miller and numerous other nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren survive.

Memorial service for Jay will be 11:00 am, Friday, January 3, 2020 at Valley Community Church in Rocky Ford, with Pastor Kurt England officiating.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
