Josephine Samuelson

On January 14, 2012, Josephine Samuelson, passed away at the AVRMC nursing home in La Junta. She was born on July 21, 1923 to Dixie Irene Gaines Samuelson and Carl Eric Samuelson in Colorado Springs, CO. Her mother passed away shortly after her birth and she was raised by her grandparents Dr. Joseph and Emma Gaines in Las Animas. She later lived with and was cared for by her aunt and uncle Genevieve Gaines Morgan and Lawrence R. Morgan. Following this she was a long term resident at AVRMC nursing home.

While growing up Josephine received special needs education and training at several facilities throughout the country and graduated from the eighth grade in Las Animas. She learned to play the piano and loved music. She was active in the First Baptist Church in Las Animas and later in the La Junta Baptist Tabernacle Church.

She is survived by a brother, John (Rosemarie) Samuelson  of White Salmon, WA; a niece Janet Irene (John) Maher of Cut Banks, MT; nephews, Carl (Virginia) Samuelson of Bothell, WA, Chris Samuelson of North Bend, WA, and Kirk Samuelson of Vancouver, WA; cousins Janet (Arthur) Morgan Walsh of Elko, NV, Dr. Candice Morgan of Greeley, CO, Lynn Gaines Watson of Touchet, WA, Paul (Donna) Samuelson of Pueblo, CO, and Robert (Jeanne) Thompson of Denver, CO. 

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Josephine Samuelson’s name to the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center in care of Ann Stone, Activities Director, at 1100 Carson Ave, La Junta, CO, 81050 direct or through the funeral home.

Services will be held at La Junta Baptist Tabernacle Church at 416 Santa Fe Avenue in La Junta on Tuesday, January 24th at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception at the church.
