Jovie Marie Butler

Jovie Marie Butler, an awesome, loving, caring wife, daughter, mother, sister and friend. On May 14, 2020, Jovie left this life with a destination of heaven. Born the first child, to Vern and Anita Kuhn on December 30, 1976 who were living in Westcliffe, Colorado at the time. Jovie attended school in Eads, North La Junta, La Junta, Rocky Ford, Pioneer Christian and graduated from Cheraw High School.

She married Bruce Butler on February 21, 1998, in Cheraw Colorado. They made their home in Rocky Ford, La Junta and then back to Rocky Ford where they bought their home.

Bruce and Jovie welcomed their first-born daughter, JaSanna Marie, in April of 2006. Bruce and Jovie added to their family with twin boys, Joshua Jamison and Eddicus Lee in December 2014. In April of 2016, they welcomed another beautiful baby boy, Beau Ezekiel. In July of 2018 a curly headed baby girl, Ruby Pearl was added to their family.

Jovie had such a heart for children. When their family was not added too, she and Bruce felt called to foster care. She opened her heart and her home to mother children.

She was a member of River of Life Fellowship in Ordway. She loved kids and helped with VBS and the church nursery. For several years Jovie attended Bible Study Fellowship, as an attendee and a children’s leader. She looked forward to the fellowship and the studies of BSF which prompted her growth as a young Christian wife and mother leading her to a deeper walk with Jesus. She looked forward to attending each week and was heartbroken when she could no longer attend. Jovie had a deep love for Jesus and knew that He was her Savior and Lord.

Jovie was a CNA and worked at Pioneer Health Care Center, Evergreen Gardens, Girch Center, and Cottonwood Ridge Assisted Living. Jovie loved caring for people whether it was her “Nana” Helen Lennon, cleaning houses or helping several elderly people in the community.

Jovie is survived by her husband, Bruce, and their five children; her mother, Anita Kuhn; siblings, Katie (Cornelius) Jordan of Commerce City; Mara (Dominic) Romero of Rocky Ford; Zach (Shannon) Kuhn of Crowley, and Brienne (Levi) Hansen of Cheraw; her in-laws, Gail and Nancy Butler; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom called her “Auntie Jo,” and were lovingly cared for by Auntie Jo whenever she could. She was preceded in death by her father, Vern Kuhn, her paternal grandparents, Bill and June Schleich of La Junta, Donald Kuhn, Anchorage Alaska, and maternal grandmother Rosella Smith of Las Animas.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at Peacock Memorial Chapel. An open-air creek side celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Mayhoffer Farms 2 miles west of La Junta on Hwy 10.
