Juan Aragon

December 23, 1915 — November 22, 2009

Graveside funeral services for Juan Aragon, 93, of Swink were held Wednesday, November 25 at 11:00 a.m. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in La Junta under the direction of Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Virgil Ortega.

Mr. Aragon died peacefully Sunday at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center, surrounded by his family.

Juan Aragon was born December 23, 1915, to Solomon and Marina (Herrera) Aragon in Canon Largo, New Mexico. On November 16, 1936, he married Adelina B. Esquibel in Wagon Mound, New Mexico. The couple moved to the Arkansas Valley in 1941. They were married for 57 years. Mr. Aragon worked hard for many years for several area farmers, and was employed the last 20+ years at Western Foods of La Junta until his retirement.

After retiring, Juan enjoyed the great outdoors, doing yard work, restoring old bikes for the children and taking long walks. He was most proud of the special care he gave his wife, Adelina, and all his grandchildren. Since he loved the outdoors, an outdoor service was most befitting for our dear Juan. He will be remembered as always helping others in any way possible; He had a heart full of love! If you stopped by his home you always had a place to rest and something to eat. His favorite snack was a snickers and a Pepsi! “Grampa John’ will be dearly missed by all his family. We are comforted in knowing he has arrived at his new home with the Lord!

Mr. Aragon was preceded in death by both his parents, his wife Adelina B. Aragon, two infant children, Juanita and Juan, Jr., daughter Mary A. Gallegos, brothers Severo Aragon and Flavio Aragon, sisters Amalia Esquibel, Rosaura Garcia, Rosenda Kilgore and Carolina Vigil.

He is survived by his daughter Erma (Gilbert) Gallegos of Swink and son Luis (Beverly) Aragon of Fort Worth, TX.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, Roberta (Mike) CaIdwell of Lamar, Gil J. Gallegos of Highlands Ranch, Jason (Carmen) Aragon of Aurora, Eric Aragon of Vail, John Gallegos of Parker and Patricia Becerra of Swink, and five great-grandchildren Mariah CaIdwell of Lamar, Tony Gallegos and Nate Gallegos of Parker, Steph Becerra of Boston, MA and Nick Becerra of Swink.

Memorials may be made to ARVMC Nursing Care Center “Resident Activities Fund”.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
