Juanita "Stubby" Fleming

Juanita “Stubby” Fleming, 81, of La Junta, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Gail Allen of the Cowboy Church officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, from 9 am to noon at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home.
Stubby was born in Rocky Ford, on October 5, 1927 to Lloyd & Ella (King) McIntosh. She married Adolph Dale Fleming on August 10, 1945, in Raton, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1980.
She was a Bookkeeper for Frank Booth for several years from the 1950’s thru 1970’s.In 1956 in Brush, Colorado, she embarked in a life long career as Horseman’s Bookkeeper for Horse Racing in several states including Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Nevada, and Arizona. She was a much sought after and respected Bookkeeper retiring in 1989 in Arizona after 20 years at Turf Paradise. In 1991 she moved to Texas. In 1999 she moved to Fowler, Colorado and finally residing at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center until her death.
Stubby is survived by her daughters, Fran (Jason) Latimer of Midkiff, TX and Katie (Gary) Kenfield of Camp Verde, Arizona; grandchildren, Nocona Sue (Jeff) Altman of Camp Verde and Will James (Debbie) Latimer if Ennis, TX; April (Ed) Bruegenhemke of Hurdland, MO; Buddy (Kelly) Kenfiled, of Peoria, AZ; Kreig Kenfield of Pensacola, FL; great-grandchildren, Kalyn Thompson, Jessie Latimer and Stephanie Giertych; Justin, Jessica, Cory, Beth, Kaitlyn, Kalina, Kane; Dale, Chris, and Holly; sisters, Mary Miller of Higbee, and Dorothy (John) Kincaid of Fowler; brothers, Dwight (Nancy) McIntosh of Fowler, Johnny McIntosh of Falcon, CO, and Bill (Linda) McIntosh of Canyon, TX. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Lyman, Richard, Eddie & Malcom McIntosh and an infant sister Marcella McIntosh.
