Julio G. Rodriguez, 95, passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 10, 2019 at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, CO. Mr. Rodriguez was born in Mexico City, Mexico on January 9, 1924 to Fructoso and Avelina Gutierrez Rodriguez.
After graduating from high school, he came to the United States in 1943 on a work visa at the age of 19 where he met the love of his life Louise Ceballos. Two years later on July 19, 1945 the two were united in marriage. He received his American Citizenship in 1957.
Mr. Rodriguez worked as a farm laborer and years later was hired with AT&SF. He started on a work crew and was recognized for his outstanding hard work ethic by being promoted to a foreman and retired from the railroad with 37 years of service. He was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe/ St. Patrick’s Parish. He volunteered his time as an usher at Sunday Mass. He also served with the Colorado National Guard for 22 years and retired as a Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Rodriguez was preceded in death by his parents, Fructoso and Avelina Gutierrez Rodriguez; wife of 52 years, Louise Rodriguez; daughter, Maryann Tafoya, three sisters, Guadalupe Rodriguez, Theresa Ballina and Josefina Rivera all of Mexico; two grandsons, Paul Guerrero, Phillip Arguello and a great grandson, Truth Bareis.
Julio is survived by his 4 living children, Evelyn Rodriguez of Pueblo, Gloria (Bobby) Arguello of La Junta, Lupita Rodriguez of Colorado Springs and Roger Rodriguez of La Junta; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, six great, great-grandchildren, two sisters, Guillermina Ballina of Mexico, Margarita Rodriguez of Mexico and a brother, Javier Rodriguez of Mexico. Numerous nieces and nephews survive.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Henry Wertin and Father Charles Sena officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
