Loraine Harrell

August 13, 1913 — July 12, 2010

Loraine Harrell, 96, passed away on Monday, July 12th at the Bent County Memorial Nursing Home. She was born on August 13, 1913 in Groveton, Texas to Willis & Mary (Stevens) Steel.
Loraine grew up in a family of four brothers & four sisters. They farmed in the Groveton area for many years, using only horses and mules to farm with.
Loraine moved to La Junta, in 1955 with her husband J.P. Harrell. They lived at 817 Cimarron for many years. She was very active in church. She taught Sunday School at the First Southern Baptist Church for over 40 years. She also worked at the Ark Valley Medical Center for several years in the sewing department until her retirement in 2001.
Loraine is survived by one brother, Wayne Steel & one sister, Martha Lee both of Lufkin, Texas; numerous nieces & nephews also survive including Billy Zumwalt & Alfred Zumwalt of La Junta
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis & Mary Steel; husband, J.P. Harrell; sisters, Coraine Zumwalt, May Carpeter, Zalma Lackey; brothers, Jeff, Earl, & Newt Steel.
Graveside services will be Friday, July 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 15th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
