Loretta Ellen Caven Blower, 78, of La Junta passed away on Monday, July 12, 2010 at her La Junta home.
Loretta was born on May 1, 1934 in Osceola, Missouri to Archie A. & Bessie Ellen (Starner) Caven. She married Jackie D. Blower in April of 1969, whom preceded her in death in April of 1984.
Loretta graduated in 1953 and soon after her graduation she began working for the Contel telephone company in Dumas, Texas and transferring to Crocket, Texas where she retired from the North Plains Telephone Company in 1988. She was a member of the La Junta Baptist Tabernacle. She also attended the Southern Baptist Church in Buena Vista, CO. During her time in Crocket, Texas she belonged to the Southern Baptist Church where she was involved in making puppets for AWANA’s and she taught Sunday school. She belonged to the Prairie Piecer Quilting Guild & the Piece Patcher’s Senior Group at the Senior Center in La Junta. Loretta loved to sew and make quilts, throws, tablecloths and enjoyed teaching anyone who was interested in learning to sew. She was very involved in making stuffed toys and albums for her friends. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Buena Vista and when it demitted to La Junta #32 she served as a Worthy Matron for two years until it closed in La Junta and it demitted to Colorado #7 in Pueblo.
She loved her family and was very proud of them, although she did not have any children of her own, she was a grandma to her brother’s children and their children.
Loretta is survived by her brother, Joe (Bettie) Caven of La Junta; niece, Amber Macbeth of Portland, ME; nephew, Joe W. Caven of Denver; great-nieces, Angelia Highwood of Denver; Melissa (Aarion Hurlet) Richey of Buena Vista; Christi Macbeth of Portland, ME; great, great-nieces & nephew, Reschelle, Megan, & Orion all of Buena Vista.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie & Bessie Caven; husband, Jackie Blower; brother, Archie Wayne Caven in 1941.
Memorial services will be Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend Jon Brandt of the La Junta Baptist Tabernacle officiating.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
