Lucille M. Tapia, 87, of La Junta passed away on June 18, 2016 at the Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. She was born on January 29, 1929 in La Junta to Pedro N. & Victoria (Mondragon) Garcia.

She worked at the Harvey House and for Inspiration Fields when it was known as the Girch Center and as a Nanny. She was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish and also was in the Mariachi Choir. She received the Metal of Gold for singing and dancing.

She is survived by her special companion puppy, Chato; son, Don L. Martinez of Pueblo; daughters, Marie M. Tapia of Colorado Springs, Susan L. Tapia of Rocky Ford and Carol H. Tapia of La Junta; 11 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jesse L. Tapia, Sr.; sons, Jesse Tapia, Jr. and Melquides Estrada; sister, Rose Tapia; brothers, Tony, Ebert, Johnny, and Louie Garcia; granddaughter, Mary Lou Beth Betancur and grandson, Christopher Cordova.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, June 24, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Paul Ekeh of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish direct or through the funeral home.
