Luz M. Vasquez

Luz M. Vasquez, 92, of La Junta passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the Pioneer Healthcare Center in Rocky Ford.  She was born on May 25, 1919 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Ishmel & Felicitas (Contretras) Medina. She married Bonifacio V. Vasquez on November 30, 1934 in La Junta, Colorado; he preceded her in death on June 14, 1995.

She is survived by her sons, Willie (Evelyn) Vasquez of Colorado Springs; Eddie (Carmen) Vasquez of La Junta; Alfred (Jean) Vasquez of La Junta; David Vasquez of Colorado Springs; Ben B. (Lois) Vasquez, Jr. of Pueblo; daughters, Lupe (Manuel) Cruz, Juanita (Mike) Chavez, and Martha Vasquez all of La Junta; brothers, Gilbert (Agnes) Medina of Denver; Abraham Medina of Denver; and Ishmel (Mary) Medina of Pueblo; 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great, great-grandchildren also survive.

Luz was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Joe M. Vasquez; sisters, Esperanza Vasquez and Anita Rivera; brothers, Frank, Manuel, Tony, and Joe Medina.   

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Saturday, December 10, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Interment will follow the Mass at the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 9, 2011 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
