Mabel Leota Enns

March 22, 1916 — March 4, 2011

Mabel Leota (Nice) Enns, 94 of Hesston KS, and formerly of La Junta, CO, Rocky Ford, CO. and Cheraw, CO., peacefully passed away on March 4, 2011, at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston. There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9 at the East Holbrook Mennonite Cemetery in Cheraw. Visitation will be Wednesday, at the East Holbrook Mennonite Church, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Mabel was born on March 22, 1916 to Reno and Rose Wadleigh Nice of Cheraw, CO. She was a longtime member of the East Holbrook Church at Cheraw and later at the Rocky Ford Mennonite Church. Her church family and activities were very important to her. She worked for a while at the Cheraw Turkey Plant and later she was a cook at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Rocky Ford. She married Karl F. Enns on March 25, 1934, and they had 6 children, 16 grand-children, 31 great-grand children and 3 great-great-grand children.
Mabel’s family was her pride and joy. No matter what was happening, she always enjoyed life with a smile on her face.
She is survived by her sons Royce (Sue) Eons, of Hesston, KS; Kenneth (Karen) Enns of Warden, WA.; daughters Karen (Mike) Van Galder of Hermitage TN.; Carolyn Enns West of Freeport, ME.; sister Ruth Coblentz, brothers Howard Nice and Robert Nice; son-in-law Clay Markie of Independence, KS.; and daughter-in-law Kaye Enns of Cheraw, CO.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Karl, son Ronnie Enns, daughter Bernice Markie, sisters Ida Rose Wolfer, Dorthy Wolfer, Gwen Killen and her brother Harry Nice.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of local arrangements.
